Top Shark Infested Waters To Watch Out



People have been so much fascinated and frightened of sharks with some very entertaining and thrilling giant man-eating shark movies. Jaws, Deep Blue Sea, The Meg are few among the many movies that had entertained us. Even before these movies, sharks have been an animal that is feared by people.

As an apex predator in the ocean, there have been many incidents of human lives being taken by sharks. But these creatures are not always a threat to humans. In fact, the International Shark Attack Files (ISAF) reports that a greater number of people die each year because of snakes, bees, wasps, and drowning than shark attacks.

There are a lot of people who go for diving in shark-infested area standing close to sharks and taking some good photographs but strictly following the guidelines, preventive measures and certain tactics that don’t provoke a shark.

But as a matter of fact, the Great White Sharks, Bull Sharks, and Tiger Sharks are renowned to attack humans intentionally if we come in their way. Let’s check out some highly shark-infested water and be careful to stay from them if we don’t want to disturb the sharks.

Gansbaai, South Africa (Shark Alley)



Located between the islands of Dyer Island and Geyser rock near Gansbaai in South Africa is a small stretch of water called the Shark Alley. The place is named such that because of the large number of Great White Sharks present between the islands and swimming through the narrow channel between them.

Gansbaai has been the main tourist attraction for cage diving to see the Great White Sharks face to face. The ferocious view of Great White Sharks with their razor-sharp teeth in the giant mouth and their beady eyes inspire fear and admiration among people making cage diving is interesting and adventurous.

New Smyrna Beach, Florida, USA



New Smyrna Beach is called the Shark attack capital of the world. This is because the place has a combination of shark-infested Atlantic waters and a lot of surfers, divers, and people going to the beaches enjoying their vacation. The reason behind being the beach is very good to surf and dive and also most of the shark attacks are accidental only and not fatal most of the time.

The waters of this beach are home to tiger sharks, blacktip sharks, and spinner sharks which are not so aggressive as great white sharks and bull sharks but are known to attack humans by accident. It is estimated that a swimmer in the waters of Florida at some point is just 10 feet away from a shark.

Lake Nicaragua, Nicaragua



Yes, you read it right it’s a lake next on the list. Lake Nicaragua is the largest freshwater lake in Central America with Bull Sharks infested. These animals are very much known for their aggressive behavior and unpredictability and they are able to enter into freshwaters and tolerate it.

But scientists had no clue about how these sharks ended up in Lake Nicaragua. Earlier it was believed that Centuries ago the sharks may have been trapped there because of the lake’s close proximity with the Pacific Ocean but in the 1960s scientists got evidence that these sharks jumped upstream the San Juan River like a salmon.

Reunion Island



About 130 miles from the coast of Madagascar in an isolated location, the French-owned Reunion Island is home to a lot of sharks. Beautiful beaches and green landscapes made it an interesting place for many divers.

However, between 2013 and 2017 it’s been a threat with 23 shark attacks with 9 being fatal off the shores of this island. The presence of Bull sharks and Tiger sharks which are known to intentionally attack the humans near the waters of this island makes it dangerous.

Recife, Brazil



Recife is a large urban area in Brazil with some beautiful urban beaches having gentle seashore breezes and sunshine and a lot of sharks. It's the dangerous bull sharks that are seen more in here.

Recife began registering shark attacks after 1992. Along a 20Km stretch of coast, 62 shark attacks were reported between 1992 and 2013, of that 24 becoming fatal. Almost 1 in every 3 attacks becomes fatal which makes Recife the most fatal place for shark attacks.

Red Triangle (Pacific Ocean)



It is a triangle-shaped region considered in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Northern California. The Red Triangle is defined with Bodega Bay as its northern vertex, Farallon’s as the western vertex, and Big Sur as the southern vertex.

This area has a large population of marine animals which are the favored prey of Great White Sharks. Around 11% of the total worldwide Great White Shark attacks on humans are recorded here.

West End, Grand Bahamas



The Tiger beach in the West End of Grand Bahamas is home to a large number of Tiger Sharks. The West End is mostly known for its high concentration of Tiger Sharks but you can also find all kinds of sharks here especially hammerheads, bull sharks, and black tips.

Like Gansbaai in South Africa, this area in the Bahamas is also famous for Shark cage diving and group deep-sea diving. Tiger beach diving is famous for its great photography chances of these predators.
